6 more die in Kurigram raising cold toll to 38

Six more people died in extreme cold in Kurigram in the last 24 hours ending 6 am on Sunday.

With this the death toll in cold wave rose to 38 in the last several weeks in the northern district.

Met Office said minimum temperature recorded in the town in the morning was 10 degrees Celsius.

Hospital and family sources said six people died, many from cold related diseases, sometime between early Saturday and early Sunday.

The dead are: Ashoke Chandra Rai, 70, of Chhinai of Rajarhat upazila, Moni, 2, Akbar Ali, 55, of Holekhana of Sadar upazila, Fulsar Ali, 65, of Islampur village on Mogolbasa union of Sadar upazila, Fuljan Bewa, 70, of Dalan village of Buraburi union of Ulipur upazila and Tofazzal Hossain, 45, of Kashembazar of the union.

All of them died in extreme cold or cold related diseases in the last 24 hours, hospital and family sources said.

Meanwhile, after two weeks of cold wave which swept over the district sun appeared in the skies of the town as well as in many upazilas at 10 am today ending 12 days of overcast condition accompanied by dense fog and dew.
